Whenever two objects are rubbed against each other, charges appear on them which result in attraction or repulsion between the two objects.

The force between the two object as the result of the interaction between the charges on them is termed as electrostatic force.

Similar to magnetic force, electrostatic force can be seen only when two charged bodies are kept sufficiently close to each other. If they are kept infinitely apart, there will not be any attraction or repulsion.

Another example of electrostatic force is, when two balloons rubbed against each other and are brought close to each other. The nature of charges developed on balloons is similar. Therefore, the balloons repel each other.

Electrostatic forces are attractive as well as repulsive in nature.
