Elephantiasis is a disease in which a person is infected through the bite by the female mosquito vectors. It is also known as filariasis. The filarial worms named Wuchereria (W. bancrofti and W. malayi), cause a slowly developing chronic inflammation of the different organs in the body and they live for many years. Generally, the lymphatic vessels of the lower limbs are affected, this disease is known as elephantiasis.
