In biology , Elephantiasis is a chronic filarial disease resulting in lymphatic obstruction, characterized by marked enlargement of the parts affected, especially of the legs and scrotum, transmitted by mosquitoes . Elephantiasis is caused by lymphatic vessels which results in extreme swelling of the skin and tissues, typically in the lower trunk and body.

Elephantiasis is also called filariasis.It is caused due transfer of filarial worm eg . Wucherria bancrofti or it can be Wucherria malayi. The vector involved is female mosquito.
