Emotional independence is not relying on others to tell you how you feel; how to achieve it is through gaining knowledge of yourself and understanding YOU have the power to feel what you feel. ... Emotional dependence is when you depend on another for your emotional well-being. It's what people call being needy.

hi there!
The ability to label, be aware, manage and understand one's own emotion as well as others, can be called emotional independency.
This is to respect the way one feels and act in sync with them and not against them. It is to not let be vulnerable and swayed away by emotions but use it as strength and be emotionally strong.
It doesn't mean you don't depend upon others or you over depend on others. It means nobody has got the right to make you happy, sad, miserable, etc.
Hope it make sense!
