Endocytosis is the process by which amoeba takes in the food particle. Amoeba is an unicellular organism where a single cell performs all the functions. Hence by endocytosis, amoeba gets its food. During endocytosis, the outermost membrane of amoeba folds inwards or extends outwards to catch the food particle, hence getting its nutrition.

Endocytosis in simple words is a process with which a cell can take up food. It is of two types- Phagocytosis and Pinocytosis. In case of Amoeba the part of the cell which is closest to food particle protudes. This protuding part of amoeba surrounds the food particle forming a kind of vesicle and then takes it inside the cell.
