The endoplasmic reticulum(ER) is the organelle that consists of irregular network of tubular double Membrane which are continuous and is connected with the plasma Membrane and nuclear Membrane.

The ER is divided into two categories :

  • Smooth ER
  • Rough ER

it help in synthesis of proteins, lipids , glycolipids, lysosome etc

1 smooth ER - ribosome are absent

2 rough ER- ribosome are present on surface and help in protein synthesis
