energy flow is also called calorific flow. It refers to the flow of energy in ecosystem through the food chain. The producers synthesize organic substance by the process of photosynthesis (i.e. they bind a simple compound with the help of solar energy into the complex organic substance). The chemical energy so obtained in plants is called the gross primary production. The producers themselves first use the synthesized organic substances in the process of respiration in which some food energy is used in oxidation of organic substances. The rest of the energy called the net primary production is stored for the growth development and important metabolic processes.

Energy flow:- The expenditure, transformation, and storage of energy is based on basically based on two different laws of themodynamics.
1. First Law Of Themodynamics or FLOT:- According to this law energy is neither created nor destroyed but transformation from one state to another state process goes on.
2. Second Law Of Thermodynamics or SLOT the law of entropy:- According to this law the transfer of food energy from one to another organism leads to loss of energy as heat due to metabolic activity.
