Equipotential surfaces are surfaces of constant scalar potential. They are used to visualize an (n)-dimensional scalar potential function in (n-1) dimensional space. The gradient of the potential, denoting the direction of greatest increase, is perpendicular to the surface.

EQUIPOTENTIAL SURFACES: Anysurface, with same electric potential at every point, is called an equipotential surface. Electric field is always perpendicular to an equipotential surface and hence works done in moving a charge between two points on an equipotential surface is zero.
