The answer depends on “ What is the dimension of the space which this Y axis belongs to?” For 2 dimensional space the equation will be x=0 (assuming the other axis to be labelled as ‘x’). But if we are in a space higher than 2D then this does not give the equation Y axis. For example if we are in 3D space ‘x=0’ is the equation Y-Z plane. Actually to express Y axis in 3D we need two equations: namely x=0 and z=0. Where x=0 is the equation of Y-Z plane and z=0 is the equation of XY plane, therefore these two equations taken together indicate the intersection of X-Y and Y-Z planes which is the Y-axis. Similarly for an N-dimensional space we need N-l independent equations to write the equation of a line.
