Esterification reaction - Ester is a product formed when ethanoic acid reacts with the ethanol. Saponification reaction - On reacting with sodium hydroxide which is an alkali , ester gives sodium salt of carboxylic acid.

Esterification reaction refers to formation of esters by reaction of an acid and an alcohol.

When esters are treated with an alkali like sodium hydroxide , then the ester is again converted to alcohol and sodium salt of carboxylic acid.This is called Saponification
