The reaction in which CARBOXYLIC ACID when treated with ALCOHOL in the presence of concenyrated H2SO4 forms esters is called esterification reaction.
e.g. CH3COOH + C2H50H >CH3COOC2H5 +H20

Answer: The esterification reaction is explained below.

Explanation:

Esterfication reaction is defined as the reaction in which a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol in the presence of an acid to produce a fruity smelling compound known as ester.

The functional group of esters are RCOOR'.

The general equation for esterification reaction is given as:

RCOOH+R'OH\overset{H^+}\rightarrow RCOOR'+H_2O

where R and R' is any alkyl, aryl or hydrogen atom.
