EVM is electronic voting machine..
1.through this fair and free elections are held.
2. weaker sections and poor people too vote for their representatives .
earlier secret ballots were used, so there were more chances for disputes or something like fight or killing even too. therefore evm machines were introduced in order to maintain the democracy and the dignity of society.

EVMs or electronic voting machines provide the voter with a button for each choice which is connected by a cable to an electronic ballot box. ... When a voter presses a button against the candidate he/she wishes to vote for, the machine locks itself.

Introductions of EVMs led to a significant decline in electoral frauds, particularly in politically sensitive states which were subjected to frequent re-polls due to electoral rigging. It strengthened the weaker and the vulnerable sections of the society (women and the scheduled castes and tribe) who were now more likely to cast their vote.It made the electoral process more competitive whereby the winning margin and the vote share of the winning party declined.Using the luminosity data, we find that EVMs led to an increase in the provision of electricity.
