To write a number or any polynomial in terms of its factors is known as factorisation.

For example :-

x^2 - 1

= x^2 - 1^2

= ( x - 1)(x +1)

It can be written as (x - 1)(x+1).

Here, (x - 1) and (x+1) are factors of x^2 - 1
