Newton's first law of motion

An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an external or unbalanced force .

Explanation:

Newton 's  First Law of motion

Some of the bodies / objects around us are at rest whereas some are in motion. Newton 's first law describes that behaviour of such bodies which are in a state of rest or  uniform motion in a straight line.

A body at rest will remain at rest also body in motion will continue in motion in a straight line with a uniform speed, unless it is compelled by an external force to change its state of rest or of uniform motion.

let's take some more examples to make it clear and easily understood.

Suppose A book is lying on the table , so , book is in rest and book will not move until an external force Will  be applied on it.

Newton's first law also recognizes that every body have some inertia .

What actually inertia is ?

  • It is a property of a body due to which it resists a change in its state of rest or uniform motion.
  • Greater the inertia of an object , greater the force is required to change it's  state.
  • In fact, mass is a measure of inertia of a body .
