\sf\underbrace{Appropriate\:Question: }

  • what is force?

\sf\underbrace{Required\: Answer: }

force is any action that moves an object or alters its uniform motion in a given direction. Force is the product of mass of the objects and its acceleration. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force required to move it.

A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object's interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects. When the interaction ceases, the two objects no longer experience the force. Forces only exist as a result of an interaction.

Example:

of force are pull, push, tension forces and frictional force between surfaces. Force is measured in Newton.

\bf\underline\orange{Additional\:Information:}

\sf\underline{ types\:of\: forces:}

There are two types of force:-

  • 1. Contact force
  • 2. Non-contact force

\sf\underline\pink{ Contact\: Force:}

Contact force is a force that is applied by objects in contact with each other. The contact force acts on a point of direct contact between the two objects. This force can either be continuous as a continuous force or can be momentary in the form of an impulse. Contact force is governed by Newton’s Laws. Contact force is responsible for most of the interactions we experience in daily life. Pushing a car up the hill, writing your name with a pen, or picking up a textbook from the table are all examples of contact force, and they are also examples of continuous force. On the other hand, hammering a nail, kicking a ball, etc are examples of impulse or momentary force.

Example:

  • Reaction force. An object at rest on a surface experiences reaction force .
  • Tension. An object that is being stretched experiences a tension force.
  • Friction. Two objects sliding past each other experience friction forces.

\sf\underline\purple{Non-Contact\: Force:}

A non-contact force is a force applied to an object by another body that is not in direct contact with it. Non-contact forces come into play when objects do not have physical contact between them or when a force is applied without any interaction. When compared to the types of contact forces, there are very few non-contact forces.

Example:

  • An apple falling down from a tree is one of the best examples of non-contact force.
  • Iron pins attracted in the presence of a magnet bar without any physical contact.
  • Falling of raindrops on earth is also an example of non-contact force.
