A force is a physical cause that changes or tends to change either the state of rest or the state of motion of a body, or the shape or size of the body.

What is force?

- Force is defined as a push or pull.

- It is calculated as :

  Force = Mass × Acceleration.

- It is denoted by F.

- F = kg × ms^-2

- It's SI unit is kg ms^-2 or N ( Newton ).

The effects of force are as follows :-

1) The force can bring an object into motion. For example :- kicking a football makes it to come into motion.

2) The force can bring an object to rest. For example : - Friction b/w the ground and the football stops the football after some distance.

3)Force can change shape & size of an object .

For example :- When we press sponge, it's shape changes. Similar is the case of a string.
