Fractional distillation of petroleum means separating the components of petroleum with the help of fractional column. 

As we know petroleum is a mixture of different types of hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons are miscible with each other, so their separation is a bit difficult. So fractional distillation is used.

Petroleum gas
Nephtha
Gasoline: used in cars and other vehicles
kerosene
diesel: used in cars and automobiles
fuel oil
Residual oil: candle making and rubber industry
