A frenectomy is the removal of a frenulum, a small fold of tissue that prevents an organ in the body from moving too far. .

The surgical removal of a frenulum which is quite simply a fold of tissue that holds the lip (labial freum) or tongue (lingual frenum) from moving too far. Sometimes the attachment of the tissue is too high restricting the organ. In those cases, this surgery is necessitated.
