Friction is a type of force which always act between two surfaces that are sliding or rolling each other.They always act on the opposite side of the force applied.It is always used to prevent an object from slipping.

Frictional force is a contact force.

Example: A ball rolling on ground stops after a few seconds because of Friction.The frictional force is applied to the opposite direction of the ball's force.
