Answer:

Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other. There are several types of friction: Dry friction is a force that opposes the relative lateral motion of two solid surfaces in contact.

Question

WHAT IS FRICTION

Answer

  • Friction is defined as the resistance offered by the surfaces that are in contact with each other when they move over each other.

  • When we throw a ball on the floor it starts moving with some velocity. But ideally, no force should be acting in the direction of motion, and according to Newton’s first law the ball should keep on rolling but this does not happen. The ball stops after moving a certain distance, so a force must be acting on it. We call this force “friction.”
