Friction is both the boon and thebane of our everyday lives. ...Friction is the force working against the sliding of one object against another, and generally increases with the force pushing the surfaces together.

Different types of motion of the object gives rise to different types of friction.Generally there are 4 types of friction they are Static friction, Sliding friction, Rolling friction, Fluid friction.

The main disadvantage of frictionis that it produces heat in various parts of machines. In this way some useful energy is wasted as heat energy. 2. Due to friction we have to exert more power in machines.

Advantages. The force of friction acts in the opposite direction that the object is moving, so friction slows down the motion of moving objects. Friction also produces unnecessary heat. For example, car engines become hotter because of friction.

➞What is friction?

A force which acts at the surfaces of contact, when one body moves upon another body is called force of friction.

➞What are the types of friction?

There are three types of friction:

Static Friction:

The frictional force that comes into play when one body tends to move over the surface of another, but the actual motion has not started yet is called static friction.

Rolling Friction:

The frictional force that comes into play when one body is actually rolling over the surface of another body is called rolling friction.

Sliding Friction:

The frictional force that comes into play when one body is actually Sliding over the surface of another body is called sliding friction.

➞ Explain Friction as a boon and friction as a curse.

Force of friction brings about wear and tear in moving bodies. It produces heat and slows down a moving body. A lot of energy is wasted in overcoming friction.

However, if there were no friction, the bodies will either slip or not move. Furthermore, the bodies will not stop. Even walking on the surface of the Earth would have been impossible. Thus, we can say that friction is a necessary evil.
