Froth floatation is a method used in metallurgy for concentrating the sulphide ore.

This method is based on two opposite properties

1. Hydrophobic (tendency to move away from water)

2.Hydrophilic (tendency to combine with water)

In this method, water is taken in a big tank ---> some vegetable oil is added ---> this forms froth from air bubbles, oil and water.

This froath comes to the top and floats on the water surface (so it is called froath floatation method)

The sulphide ore get wetted with oil(hydrophobic property) and come up with this froath ,while the gangue particles get wetted with water and remain at the bottom (hydrophilic property).

Thus the president are easily separated.

Hope this helps you :-)
