the portion of a cone or pyramid which remains after its upper part has been cut off by a plane parallel to its base, or which is intercepted between two such planes.

Answer:

When a cone is cut by a plane into two parts, the lower part is known as the frustum of the cone. The upper part of cone remains cone only. The volume and area of both the shapes will be different. Frustum literally means ‘piece cut off’.

Total surface area of frustum of cone = πL (r + r′) + πr² + πr′²

Hope this helps \mathtt{: )}
