The cornea is the outer covering of the eye. This dome-shaped layer protects your eye from elements that could cause damage to the inner parts of the eye.
The crystalline lens is suspended within the eye behind the coloured iris. It acts to fine-tune the focusing of the eye to form a picture of the world on the retina. In contrast to the cornea, the lens is normally flexible and by changing shape allows for clear vision at a range of distances. A loss of the flexibility in focus is inevitable as we get older due to stiffening of the lens, and this is termed presbyopia.
