Following are the functions of placenta :

  1. Nutrition - All the nutritive elements transferred from the maternal blood to foetal blood through placenta.
  2. Storage - Placenta stores glycogen,fate,etc.
  3. As a barrier - Allows only essential material to pass into foetal blood.
  4. Excretion - excretory products diffuse into maternal blood and are again excreted by the mother.
