- Nutrition - All the nutritive elements transferred from the maternal blood to foetal blood through placenta.
- Storage - Placenta stores glycogen,fate,etc.
- As a barrier - Allows only essential material to pass into foetal blood.
- Excretion - excretory products diffuse into maternal blood and are again excreted by the mother.
