he functionality of a monomer is the number of binding sites that is/are present in that monomer.
For example, the functionality of monomers such as ethene is one because there is only one binding site in it.

The functionality of a polymer is that they are used in material science, to join together and form polymers that are useful in our day to day life and also important for other uses.

The significance in polymer chemistry is that natural monomers make rubber, wool, silk, etc. Artificial polymers are used to make plastic , nylon, synthetic rubber, and a variety of products.
