A gene is a sequence of DNA or RNA which codes for a molecule that has a function. After the protein is formed it acquires its active folded state and is able to perform its functions in the cell. The proper folding, transportation, activity and eventual destruction of proteins are all highly regulated processes. It consists of genetic material known as chromosomes which are further passed to the future generations.
