the conversion of glucose in pyruvic acid or pyruvate is called glycolysis.it is an aerobic process and hence doesn't requires oxygen.it doesn't take place in cell.its further breakdown takes place in cell.its conversion in lactic acid is in shortage of oxygen and is in cytoplasm.its breakdown in totally absence of oxygen in alcohol or ehanol is also in cytoplasm.
it's breakdown in water and carbon dioxide is in presence of oxygen in enough amount and takes place in mitochondria
