Gravity, also called gravitation, in mechanics, the universal force of attraction acting between all matter. ... On Earth all bodies have a weight, or downward force of gravity, proportional to their mass, which Earth's mass exerts on them. Gravity is measured by the acceleration that it gives to freely falling objects.

Gravity is the basic property of a matter. If there's a mass there has to some gravity associated with it. Gravity, basically, is the tendency of a matter, possessing a considerable mass, to attract other objects towards itself. While studying gravity it should be noted that it only attract things and doesn't repel them. That is, gravity is always attractive not repulsive.

Assume a spherical mass 'M' possessing a radius 'R' then the gravitational intensity associated with it at a certain distance 'r' from its centre is given by E = GM/r^2. Where, G is the universal Gravitational Constant. It must be noted that 'r' is the distance of observed point from the centre of the body of mass M.

Further multiplying the gravitational intensity with another mass object having a mass 'm' placed at a distance 'r', we may calculate the gravitational force experienced by the two objects due to each other. That is, "Gravitational Force (F) = Gravitational Intensity × Mass". Thus, we may conclude that, F = GMm/r^2.
