▶ Green revolution refers to the introduction of High yielding variety (HYV) of seeds and increased use of fertilizer and irrigation methods.
▶ It took place during the 1960s especially 1965onwards.
▶ It was aimed at providing increase in production to make India self-sufficient in food grains.
▶ As a result of the Green Revolution and the introduction of chemical fertilizers, synthetic herbicides and pesticides, high-yield crops, and the method of multiple cropping, the agricultural industry was able to produce much larger quantities of food.
