The Green Revolution was started around 1943 by the Mexicans and Americans. It was to aid Mexico's agricultural development, and improve economic growth.
The enormous increase in the production of food grain (especially wheat) during the last 3 decades, due to use of seeds of HYV (=High Yield Varieties), higher dose of fertilizers and pesticides, and irrigation is known as green revolution.

Speaker National Assembly (NA) Chaudhry Amir stated this at an inaugural session of two-day national conference on "Sustainable agriculture for rural development and poverty alleviation" on Wednesday.
"Our farmers are among the best in the world and with supportive measures they can not only make Pakistan self sufficient, but also yield enough surplus for export earnings," he added.
NA Speaker said major changes had to be made in the agriculture and the rural economic structure in view of the rising processes of commercialisation taking place in that sector.
