Usually earth absorbs the Sunrays falling on it and acquire s the needed heat energy. Out of this most of the light is reflected back. In this reflected Ray's, some infrared Ray's are also there . Some gases of atmosphere absorbs the infrared Ray's and stop them going out of earth . CO2 , Carbon monoxide,methane , chloro floro carbon are some gases which absorb infrared Ray's these are called Green house effect
