The body cavity of arthropods and molluscs, which is filled with blood. The haemocoel is an enlarged blastocoel which greatly reduces to coelom(this is restricted to the cavities of the gonads and excretory organs). The haemocoel can act as a 'hydrostatic skeleton'.
