What is Hoffmann bromamide degradation reaction?

Ar/R-CONH2 + Br2 +4NaOH -------> R-NH2 + Na2CO3 + 2NaBr + 2H2O

*Ar ---> Aromatic means it can be a ring Or
R ---> Alkyl group.

Hoffmann's Bromamide reaction : When an acid amide is heated with Br_2 and aq. NaOH solution, 1° amine having one carbon atom less is produced. This reaction is called Hoffman's Bromamide reaction.
