One of the most important organic reactions in organic chemistry is the Hoffman Bromamide reaction. It involves the synthesis of primary amines. It occurs when degradation of amide takes place when it is treated with bromine in an aqueous or ethanolic solution of sodium hydroxide. The primary amine which is formed contains one carbon less than the number of carbon atoms in that amide.
