Explanation:

the intermixing of atomic orbitals of almost equal energy which are present in the outer shells of the atom and redistribute into same number of orbitals with same properties like energy and shape is called hybridisation.

formation of Becl2

Be atom in excited state 2s orbital and 2px contain unpaired electrons to intermix and

redistribute to two identical orbitals.Be makes covalent bond with chlorine atom.

in Cl 3pz is empty . so two Be atoms overlap with 2 Cl atoms that is sigma 2s 3p and sigma 2p 3p.

angle formed by BeCl2 is 180°.

As per hunds rule each orbital gets one Electron.

the new orbitals based on the types of orbitals that have undergone hybridisation are called

sp orbitals. that two sp orbitals get separated by 180°.

now each cl atom comes with its 3pz orbitals and overlaps it the sp orbitals of Be forming two identical Be-Cl bonds.

Any central atom surrounded by just tworegions of valence electron density in a molecule will exhibit sp hybridization. Some examples include the mercury atom in the linear HgCl2 molecule, the zinc atom in Zn(CH3)2, which contains a linear C–Zn–C arrangement, the carbon atoms in HCCH andCO2, and the Be atom in BeCl2.

The purpose of hybridization is to see the types of bonds that the atoms share with each other, whether it be sigma or pi bonds. The different types of bonds allow different properties, like how pi bonds do not allow rotation whereas sigma bonds are rotational.
