• This service was founded in 1858.
• The duties of an IAS officer are :-
→Policy formulation
→Policy implementation
→Public administration
→Bureaucratic governance
→Secretarial assistance (Central and State)
→To handle the daily affairs of the government, including framing and implementation of policy.
• There are three different modes for the selection of an IAS officer :-
→ Through civil service examination.
→ Through state civil services.
→ Non-state civil services. ( in a very rare case )
An IAS Officer as a civil servant is responsible for the law and order and general administration in the area under his work.
• They also serve as Personal Secretaries to Ministers in Central Government.
Designations holded by the IAS officers in the government jobs are :-
● SDO/SDM/Joint Collector/ Chief Development Officer (CDO).
● District Magistrate/District Collector/Deputy Commissioner.
●Divisional Commissioner.
●Member Board of Revenue.
● Chairman Board of Revenue.
