Answer:
The worship of idols in Hinduism is not merely about depictions of gods, but are considered powerful energy centers. Times NIE reports on why India is one place where sculptors delve deep into the science of idol making, adding colour, vision, energy and infusing life into the art forms .
Explanation:
Most sculptors belong to a legacy that inculcates the art from a young age. The young artisans belong to families who have been in the business of making idols for generations. According to Dilbar Samant, from Mumbai, his team of artisans haven’t learnt anything other than idol-making. What started as a passion earlier slowly became their livelihood. Samant, for instance, started out as an assistant to his father, and later with age and maturity, took over. Ironically, most craftsmen believe that the art is slowly dying and that the new generation is not keen on taking the tradition forward. “The hard work that is required in this profession is too much and the money is not sufficient. If my son wants to learn, he will but I won’t force him to take up this profession,” Samant says.
