in the poem the cold within the poet highlight the the lack of compassion and warmth feeling of different castes of people. someone thinks of their race while some are selfish and refuses to help people of different castes or to those who cannot help them in anyway. they don't help anyone and end up harming themselves as in the story. it is a story about 6 people trapped in snow. the belong to different caste and have 1 log each. the first woman refuses to put her log to fire as she notice that one person was black in the group. The second man saw no one of his religion so he refused. the third man was the poor man who refused to share his log with a rich and that was the case with the fourth man i.e. the rich man who would not share anything with poor. The black man was seeking for revenge from all those who have insulted his tribe. The sixth man was different from this group who thought only of himself and thought that he would gain nothing if he helped them. But all people died in the snow but not because of the cold outside but because of the lack of warmth feeling of compassion towards each other in their heart
