Immunization is the intentional process of helping an individual gain immunity to a microorganism. So the person is immune or more resistant the next time their system sees that same infectious agent. The normal way we provide immunity in this day and age is via a vaccine. Vaccines are killed or attenuated organisms that are injected into humans so they can get all the benefit of exposure without causing a full blown infection/disease. However, some parents who send their kids over to a family's home that has chicken pox in their contagious phase, could also be "immunizing" their children. (Often called Pox Parties)
