Immunity is the power to resist. Infection or the action of certain poisons. This immunity is either (1) inherited: (2) acquired naturally: or (3) acquired artificially.
Acquired immunity is either active or passive.
Active immunity may be artificially produced by inoculating an animal with a vaccine (dead or attenuated bacteria or virus) or with a toxoid.
Passive immunity is that form of immunity obtained by injecting into the body of animal blood-serum drawn from the body of another animal which has previously been rendered actively immune by injecting particular antigens.
