Tendency of the body/object to maintain its state of motion/rest is called its inertia. The leaves fall from branches when shaken vigorously because the when the tree is shaken the tree moves but the leaves of the tree are stable therefore they do not move they fall down because of there 'Inertia of Rest'

HOPE THIS HELPS

the leaves try to be in rest when a tree is shaken.but the branch comes into motion cause the leaves separate from its branch.
