- The digestion has a crucial role in maintaining the living organisms and in providing energy. Organs work together to finish this difficult process in an efficient way. Digestion is the process of decreasing the size of food from large quantities into small ones to make it proper to digest. There are three major steps in gastrointestinal system of a creature which are ingestion, digestion, and absorption.
- Ingestion, which takes place within the mouth of an individual , are often taken because the initiative of gastrointestinal system . It is chewed to interrupt down little particles within the mouth. Saliva, which is a production of glands to ease the process, plays a huge role in softening the food while chewing. After that, esophagus, the opening resulting in the stomach, helps food visit other step.
- Secondly, next step starts in the stomach. The valve of the stomach opens and takes the food inside when the upcoming food reaches rock bottom of the opening called esophagus. Stomach starts working and mixes all the foods inside by compressing. Acidic gastric liquids, excreted by glands in the stomach, help stomach mixing al the food and making them a semi-liquid state so they will be able to easily get into small intestine. At this last place, which is intestine, enzymes are excreted and digestion is accomplished.
- Finally, the last step is the shortest step which is absorption. This step occurs in the small intestine. The small intestine is obstructed with small, jaggy villis, which help the absorption of the food. Villis absorb all the tiny food inside them through their pores. Some of these food particles get into the bloodstream to travel the whole body through veins.
- All in all, steps discussed above are major ones in digestive system. I mean, there are many small steps between them, which are very crucial for health. These major ones, as stated, are ingestion, digestion, and absorption. When anyone of these three steps is not completed, the whole digestive system stays incomplete. Also, this incompleteness can cause a series of illnesses such as costive, indigestion and diarrhea. The digestion has a crucial role in maintaining the living organisms and in providing energy.
