Materials that do not allow electric current pass through them are known as insulator. For example- plastic, mica, rubber, glass, ebonite and sulphur.

Insulators are used to protect wires and cover electrical equipment. This prevents electrical fires and allows people to handle wires without receiving  an electric shock.
