ionic bonds are bonds formed by the transfer of electrons from a metal to a non metal

COVALENT bond:
covalent bonds are the bonds formed by mutual sharing of electrons.it takes place only between a non-metal and non-metal

Covalent bonding is the sharing of electrons between atoms. This type of bonding occurs between two atoms of the same element or of elements close to each other in the periodic table.

.ionic bond:In an IONIC bond, two atoms totally exchange electrons so that each atom can-- separately--have a more "stable" valence shell.
