Isobars are atoms of different chemical elements that have the same number of nucleons.

Correspondingly, isobars differ in atomic number but have the same mass number.

An example of a series of isobars would be ⁴⁰S, ⁴⁰Cl, ⁴⁰Ar, ⁴⁰K, and ⁴⁰Ca.

Isobars :- Isobars are the atoms of different elements having same atomic masses but different atomic numbers.

They exist in relative abundance of some elements.

Properties of isobars :-

  • They are the atoms of different elements.
  • Isobars have different atomic structure.
  • Isobars have different chemical properties.
  • They kept at different position in periodic table.

Ex. of some isobars are :-

40S, 40Cl, 40Ar, 40K, and 40Ca.

They have same atomic mass but different atomic numbers.
