The IUPAC name of \bold{\left(\mathrm{CH}_{3}\right)_{2} \mathrm{CHCHO}} is 2-methylpropanal and its chemical name is Isobutyraldehyde.

This chemical is colourless but has a very sharp and pungent odour. Its density is less than water and also insoluble in it. Isobutyl aldehyde is produced by making propene undergo hydroformylation.

It can also be synthesized by using genetically modified microorganisms. This is used for bioremediation. This chemical easily undergoes Cannizzaro Reaction. Its characteristic smell is that of straw or husk.
