  • What is IVF ?

➜ IVF is the acronym for In-vitro Fertilisation . In this process the gametes from both the parents namely ovule or egg from mother and sperm from father are taken and fused in lab under controlled conditions. Then a zygote forms. This zygote is grown for a week in the lab and then implanted back into the Uterus.Babies born through this process are known as Test Tube babies.

  • When is IVF used ?

➜ When there is a problem in the oviduct ; fertilisation fails. And hence IVF is used in such cases.

Supplementary information :

  • Fertilisation is the process by which sperm fuses with the ovum to form a zygote.

  • It occurs in the Fallopian tubes.
