Jet streams are high elevation winds blowing through a narrow belt in the upper troposphere. They generally blow in the tropopause.
The westerly flows bring in western cyclonic disturbances in the north and north - west parts of India. They blow south of the Himalayas all year except summer. In summer they move towards the north of the Himalayas with the sun's apparent movement.
The sub - tropical easterly flows which blow over peninsular India cause tropical cyclones affecting the eastern coastal regions of India during monsoon as well as in the months of October and November.
