The juxtaglomerular cells (JG cells) are cells in the kidney that synthesize, store, and secrete the enzyme renin. They are specialized smooth muscle cells mainly in the walls of the afferent arterioles, and some in efferent arterioles, that deliver blood to the glomerulus.
